Introduction

This guide explains how to configure and check the settings for Wildix mobile applications (Collaboration 7, x-bees and x-hoppers) in wireless environments. It includes information on Wi-Fi setup and mobile network requirements.

Before you start

A stable Wi-Fi network with good coverage across the entire site is essential for VoIP. Before setup, verify the following:

  • Latency: check ping and jitter (jitter must be ≤ 30 ms)

  • Access point roaming configuration

  • Customer environment (industrial, metallic structures, etc.)

  • Connection quality to the PBX (HW/VM or cloud). For cloud PBX, verify the interconnection quality with AWS.

Wi-Fi setup

Roaming

Roaming is a critical parameter. Poor configuration may cause devices to stay connected to the wrong access point, even when a closer one is available.

Depending on the vendor, the following standardised roaming protocols may be supported:

  • 802.11r

  • 802.11v

  • 802.11k

How to validate roaming configuration

The simplest way is to test with a smartphone on-site under real conditions. For accurate measurements, use an Android phone with the WiFi Analyzer app (free):https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vrem.wifianalyzer

For better responsiveness, enable Android developer options (tap 7 times on "Build number" in the "About" menu) and disable Wi-Fi throttling.

Note: WiFi Analyzer is available on Android only.

The app shows the signal strength of nearby access points. When moving around the site, your device should automatically connect to the strongest AP — this is roaming working correctly. If the connected AP does not change while you move, roaming is likely misconfigured.

Troubleshooting

If roaming is not working properly:

  • Check the access point vendor documentation or contact vendor support for optimal configuration.

  • Verify that your smartphones are compatible with the roaming protocols.

  • If issues persist, try disabling roaming protocols on the APs. Modern smartphones can often handle roaming on their own

To validate roaming, perform a test call between two users — one stationary, one moving around the site. If the call remains stable with good audio quality, roaming is properly configured.

Coverage

Good coverage across the entire site is essential. Connecting to an AP does not guarantee sufficient signal quality for voice.

  • Keep signal strength at -65 dBm or better. At -80 dBm, a phone may connect but voice transmission will be unreliable.

  • In industrial environments, pay special attention to metallic structures and machines that may cause interference. In such cases, additional access points may be required.

We strongly recommend engaging a Wi-Fi specialist to perform a site survey.

Frequency Bands

Wi-Fi Frequency Bands

  • Prioritize 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands whenever possible

  • Avoid 2.4 GHz — it is often congested and not recommended for VoIP

  • Use the WiFi Analyzer app to measure congestion on your site

Mobile Network (LTE / 5G)

Poor signal coverage leads to packet loss and degraded voice quality. To verify coverage, perform a call test while moving around the site:

  • Audio remains stable → coverage is sufficient.

  • Voice drops occur → switch to Wi-Fi, as it provides more control over the connection

Android Devices

The behavior of Android devices may vary depending on the manufacturer due to custom OS modifications (overlays). These modifications can affect the performance of the Wildix application, for example, by causing delayed notifications or missed incoming calls.

To ensure proper app behavior, configure the following:

  • Exclude the app from all battery optimization modes

  • Enable "Full-screen notifications" and "Background start"

  • Grant all notification permissions

  • Ensure Google Play Services are installed and not restricted by battery-saving settings
